The British Tomato Growers' Association (BTGA) is a group based in West Sussex, UK. It helps people who grow tomatoes in the United Kingdom. The BTGA works to support tomato farmers and promote British-grown tomatoes.
What the BTGA Does
The United Kingdom does not grow all the tomatoes it needs. Only about 5 out of every 100 tomatoes eaten in the UK are grown there. The BTGA helps most of the tomato growers in the UK. This means they work with more than 90% of them! The time when British tomatoes are fresh and ready is from March to October. This is known as the British Tomato Season.
Who Leads the BTGA?
A group of leaders helps run the British Tomato Growers' Association. They are called the Board of Directors. As of 2025, these are the people on the board:
- Simon Conway - BTGA Chair
- Paul Faulkner (Treasurer and Company Secretary) - EVG
- Richard Diplock - Green House Growers
- Janann Durnford - Red Roofs Nursery
- Roly Holt - R & L Holt
- Rob James - Thanet Earth
- John Overvoorde - Delfland Nurseries
- Matthew Simon - Glinwell Plc
Special Events
The BTGA holds special events throughout the year. One of these is called British Tomato Week. It takes place every May. This week celebrates British tomatoes and encourages people to eat them.
The association also hosts a big meeting called a conference. This meeting happens every September. For example, in 2024, the conference was held on September 26. Growers and experts meet to share ideas and learn new things about growing tomatoes.
