Early Life and First Steps

César Rincón grew up in Bogotá, the capital of Colombia. From a young age, he was interested in the world of bullfighting. He decided to become a professional bullfighter and trained hard to learn the skills needed for this challenging career.

His official debut as a junior bullfighter, or novillero, was in 1981. He became a full professional matador in his hometown of Bogotá on December 8, 1982.

Rise to Fame in Europe

While he was known in Colombia, Rincón's international career took off in Spain, which is considered the heart of the bullfighting world. In 1991, he had an incredible season in Madrid. He was carried out of the famous Las Ventas bullring on the shoulders of the crowd four times in a row. This was a historic achievement that made him a superstar in the sport.

Being carried out on shoulders, known as salida a hombros, is the highest honor a matador can receive at major bullrings. Rincón's success in 1991 is still remembered as one of the greatest moments in modern bullfighting history.

He first announced his retirement in 1999 but returned to the bullring in 2002. He officially retired for good in 2008. After retiring, he has focused on raising cattle at his ranch in Colombia.
