Discovering City Without Walls Gallery
City Without Walls was New Jersey's oldest art space of its kind. It was a "not-for-profit" organization. This means it used its money to help artists and the public, not to make a profit.
Supporting New Artists and Art Lovers
The gallery started way back in 1975. Its main goal was to help new and rising artists. It gave them chances to show their art and grow their careers. It also helped people understand and enjoy modern art.
The gallery relied on its members to help choose the art for shows. These shows happened both at the main gallery and other places. cWOW, which stands for City Without Walls, usually had 6 to 10 art shows each year.
Educational Programs for Young People
cWOW also ran three special programs to teach about art. These programs were:
- City Murals
- Newark New Media
- ArtReach
These programs helped young people learn about different kinds of art. They also got to create their own art.
Gallery Locations and Art Tours
Besides its main spot, cWOW also had a gallery inside One Newark Center. Both of these art spaces were part of a city-wide event. This event was called the Open Doors Studio Tour. It allowed people to visit many art studios and galleries in Newark.
