History of Cain's Ballroom

Cain's Ballroom has a long and interesting history. It started as a place for cars. Then it became a dance academy. Over the years, it grew into a legendary music venue. Many different kinds of music have been played there.

Western Swing Music

In the 1930s and 1940s, Cain's Ballroom was very important for a type of music called western swing. A famous band, Bob Wills and the Texas Playboys, played there often. They even broadcast their shows almost every day. They also performed live each week. This helped make western swing music popular.

Famous Musicians and Bands

Many well-known artists have performed at Cain's Ballroom. Leon Russell and his band played there regularly. This was when Larry Shaeffer owned the venue.

Cain's Ballroom is also famous for another reason. In 1978, a punk rock band called the Sex Pistols played there. This was one of only seven places they performed on their only tour in North America. After their show, one of the band members, Sid Vicious, damaged a wall in the green room. This part of the wall was saved. You can still see it on display at Cain's Ballroom today! It's a unique piece of music history.
