Castillo de Gauzón facts for kids
Gauzón Castle, also known as Castillo de Gauzón, is an old ruined fortress in Spain. It is located in a place called Castrillón, in Asturias. Not much of the castle is left today. This is partly because people in the area used many of its stones to build their own homes and other buildings.
What is Gauzón Castle?
This castle is very important to the history of Asturias. It was here that the famous Victory Cross was covered with gold and beautiful jewels. This cross is a very special symbol for Asturias.
Discovering the Castle's Age
When archaeologists first dug at the castle site, they thought it was built around the 800s. However, newer tests using a method called Carbon-14 showed something different. These tests suggest the castle was actually built much earlier, in the mid-600s. This makes it a very old structure!
