Catherine de Vendôme (born 1354 – died April 1, 1412) was an important noblewoman in France. She was a ruling Countess of Vendôme and Castres. She held these titles from 1372 until 1403.
Her Life and Role
Catherine was the daughter of John VI of Vendôme and Jeanne of Ponthieu. In 1364, when she was about 10 years old, she married John I, Count of La Marche.
In 1372, Catherine became the Countess of Vendôme. This happened after her niece, Jeanne, passed away. Catherine then ruled Vendôme together with her husband, John I. After her husband's death, she continued to rule with her second son, Louis. She managed these lands until 1403.
Her Children
Catherine and John I had several children:
- James II (1370–1438): He became the Count of La Marche and Castres.
- Isabelle (born 1373): She became a nun at Poissy.
- Louis (1376–1446): He later became the Count of Vendôme.
- John (1378–1457): He was known as the Lord of Carency. He married twice.
- Anne (around 1380 – September 1408): She married John of Berry, the Count of Montpensier. Later, she married Louis VII, Duke of Bavaria.
- Marie (1386 – after September 11, 1463): She was known as the Lady of Brehencourt. She married Jean de Baynes.
- Charlotte (1388 – January 15, 1422): She married King Janus of Cyprus in 1411.
