Where the Gran Canaria Skink Lives
The Gran Canaria skink likes to live in many different places. You can find it in warm forests, areas with lots of bushes (shrubland), and places with Mediterranean-style plants. It also lives in grassy areas, rocky spots, and sandy shores. Sometimes, you can even spot them in farmland or plantations.
What the Gran Canaria Skink Looks Like
These skinks are not very big. Adult skinks measure about 16 to 18 centimeters long. About half of their length is their tail! They have very tiny, thin legs with five small toes on each foot.
Gran Canaria Skink Life Cycle
Gran Canaria skinks usually live by themselves. They only look for a partner when it's time to mate. These skinks are special because they are ovoviviparous. This means the mother carries her eggs inside her body until the babies are ready to hatch. After about three months of pregnancy, the female skink gives birth to 2 to 4 live babies.
Keeping Gran Canaria Skinks as Pets
Some people keep Gran Canaria skinks as pets. They live in special enclosures called vivariums. A vivarium is like a mini habitat that helps keep the skinks healthy and happy.
