His Family Background
Christian Ulrich I was the third son of Duke Silvius I Nimrod of Württemberg-Oels. His mother was Duchess Elisabeth Marie.
What He Ruled
When Christian Ulrich's oldest brother, Charles Ferdinand, died in 1669, Christian Ulrich became the ruler of the Duchy of Bernstadt.
Later, in 1697, his older brother Silvius II Frederick also passed away. This meant Christian Ulrich inherited the Duchy of Oels. He decided to keep the Duchies of Oels and Dobroszyce, along with parts of Międzybórz and Trebnitz. He then gave the Duchy of Bernstadt to his nephew, Charles.
In 1698, Christian Ulrich had a special burial place, called a ducal crypt, built as an addition to the Castle Church of St. John. He also started a large collection of books and art at Oels Castle. In 1685, he bought a town called Neudorf. Between 1685 and 1692, he built a beautiful baroque style castle in Neudorf. He named this new castle Sibyllenort, in honor of his second wife, Marie Sibylle of Saxe-Merseburg.
Christian Ulrich I died on April 5, 1704, at Oels Castle when he was 51 years old. He was buried in the ducal crypt that he had built.
