How Mandatory Started
The website CraveOnline.com began in late 2004. It was launched by AtomicOnline, which is part of Evolve Media. A book from 2009 called The Man's Book even said CraveOnline was a top website for men.
Another website, AskMen.com, described CraveOnline as a place that brings together fun and interesting topics. They said it had "Great articles, nice pictures and other cool stuff."
In 2013, CraveOnline made a special 3D ad for phones and tablets. Later that year, they started their own studio to make videos and other content. In 2015, CraveOnline got a fresh new look. It started to focus more on culture and lifestyle, not just music.
Then, in March 2018, CraveOnline changed its name to Mandatory. This new name came from a very popular part of their old website. They also got a new motto: "Laugh. Learn. Do Some Good."
