The Story of Dave's Gourmet
Dave's Insanity Sauce first came out around 1993. It was one of the first sauces to use something called capsaicin extract. This extract is the part of chili peppers that makes them super hot. Using it made Dave's Insanity Sauce much hotter than other sauces at the time.
To give you an idea of how hot it is, Dave's Insanity Sauce has been measured at 180,000 Scoville units. Scoville units are a way to measure how spicy something is. For comparison, a popular sauce like Tabasco sauce is usually around 2,500 Scoville units.
The company's founder, Dave Hirschkop, made the sauce even more famous. He would sometimes wear a straitjacket at events to promote his products. This helped show how "insane" his sauces were!
