Davidsonia pruriens, also known as ooray or Davidson's plum, is a cool tree found in the rainforests of northern Queensland, Australia. It's a medium-sized tree that grows in wet, wild places.
This tree has big, interesting leaves. It also grows tasty, dark burgundy fruits! These fruits grow in large bunches right from the branches or even the tree trunk. There are at least two different kinds of Davidson's plum trees.
The name "ooray" is an old name given by the native people of Australia. More and more people who grow and use this fruit are starting to call it "ooray."
Where Does Davidson's Plum Grow?
Davidson's plum trees love wet rainforests. You can find them from places right by the sea all the way up to mountains 1,000 metres high! They grow best in untouched rainforest areas.
What is Davidson's Plum Used For?
People grow this tree a little bit for its fruit. The fruit tastes quite sour. It is used to make yummy things like jam, sauces, and cordial. You can even make wine from it!
The fruit is also super healthy. It has a lot of antioxidants. Antioxidants are good for your body because they help protect your cells.
