Starting His Career

Ambassador to Poland

End of an Era
Domingo d'Yriarte was one of the last foreign diplomats to leave Warsaw. This happened in 1795, a very difficult year for the Polish–Lithuanian Commonwealth. The country was divided up by its neighbors in what was called the Third Partition of Poland. This event marked the end of the Commonwealth as an independent nation.
Domingo d'Yriarte also signed an important agreement that year. It was called the Peace of Basel, signed on July 22. This treaty helped end a war between Spain and France. He passed away on November 22, 1795, the same year he signed the peace treaty and saw the end of the Polish–Lithuanian Commonwealth.
