Don't Look Under the Bed is a fun and spooky TV movie made by Disney Channel. It came out on October 9, 1999, as a Disney Channel Original Movie (DCOM). The film was directed by Kenneth Johnson. It's about a smart girl named Frances who finds herself in a strange situation involving imaginary friends and a sneaky Boogeyman!

Movie Story

Frances Bacon McCausland (Erin Chambers) is a super smart girl. She is starting high school a whole year early! But strange things begin happening in her town, Middleberg. Dogs appear on people's roofs, alarm clocks go off too early, and eggs are all over a teacher's car. Someone even put gelatin in the school swimming pool!

The letter "B" is spray-painted everywhere, even on Frances' locker. Everyone thinks Frances is causing these pranks. She has no idea why this is happening.

Then, an older boy named Larry Houdini (Eric "Ty" Hodges II) offers to help. Larry tells Frances he is an imaginary friend. He proves it because only children can see him. Larry explains that the Boogeyman is framing Frances! Frances finds this very hard to believe.

The Boogeyman causes a big power outage, which was hinted at by the "B"s he painted. But Frances' house is fine, with all its Christmas lights still on. Frances then loses her best friend, Joanne. She also makes a fool of herself trying to convince others that Larry is real. Her family even starts to wonder if she's okay.

Frances is very frustrated. She checks out The Boogey Book from the library for Larry. Larry decides to build a special device called a "tetra-fuse." This device is supposed to make the Boogeyman harmless and old.

Frances later learns that Larry was her younger brother Darwin's imaginary friend. Larry still cares about Darwin. But Frances had convinced Darwin to grow up and stop believing in Larry. Larry also cooks up some "Boogey Goo" to use as bait. He finds it delicious, which scares Frances! She looks for information about Boogeymen in the book. She learns that a Boogeyman is created when someone stops believing in their imaginary friend too soon.

Darwin accidentally steps in the Boogey Goo. This attracts the Boogeyman, and Darwin gets kidnapped from Frances' room! Frances and Larry follow him to "Boogeyworld." This strange place exists right underneath Frances' bed.

During a fight there, Larry starts to turn into a Boogeyman himself. This happens because Darwin stopped believing in him. The other Boogeyman drags Darwin towards a cliff. But Frances convinces Darwin to believe in Larry again. This makes Larry turn back to normal!

After using the tetra-fuse on the Boogeyman, Frances realizes something amazing. The Boogeyman is actually Zoe, her own old imaginary friend! Frances had stopped believing in Zoe when Darwin got sick. She thought it was time to grow up then. Frances shows Zoe that she still cares about her. She holds Zoe's hand, and Zoe turns back to normal!

Frances and Darwin return to the real world. Their parents tell them that the same strange things that happened in Middleberg are now happening in another city. Larry says that "the guy in his head" just told him to go take care of the other Boogeyman. Zoe offers to help, saying she was not very good at being a Boogeyman.

Frances is upset because it was not easy for her to believe in them again. Before Larry and Zoe leave, Larry tells Frances it's okay. He shows her that childhood was great, but adulthood can be wonderful too, if she keeps a sense of wonder. He then turns on the Christmas lights outside. This allows him and Zoe to leave. That night, Darwin is scared. Larry sends him to Frances, and she lets him sleep with her. Larry and Zoe watch them with smiles.
