Enrique García Ojeda facts for kids
Enrique García Ojeda (born on January 21, 1972) is a famous Spanish rally driver. He was born in Los Corrales de Buelna, Cantabria. Enrique is best known for winning the 2007 Intercontinental Rally Challenge (IRC), which is a big competition for rally drivers from different countries.
Enrique often competed in Spanish rallies, including the well-known Rally Catalunya. In 2006, he joined the first season of the IRC as a driver for Peugeot Sport España. He drove a Peugeot 206 S1600 car. His best result that year was finishing seventh in the Ypres Rally.
Enrique's Big Win in the IRC
In 2007, Enrique's team, Peugeot Sport España, started using a new car called the Peugeot 207 S2000. This car helped him a lot! He finished on the podium (meaning he was in the top three) five times out of the seven races he entered. He also scored points in all seven races.
How He Won the 2007 Title
Even though Enrique didn't win any single race in 2007, he was very consistent. This means he always finished well, earning many points. Because of his steady performance, he managed to beat his teammate Nicolas Vouilloz and other strong drivers from the Abarth team to win the overall championship title. It showed that being consistent can be just as important as winning individual races!
Later Career Highlights
After his big win, things changed a bit for Enrique. In 2008, other teams like Kronos Racing and Peugeot Bel-Lux took over running the 207 S2000 cars. This meant Enrique and Peugeot Sport España only entered two IRC races that year. He finished fourth in the Rally Príncipe de Asturias.
However, Enrique still had a great year in Spain! He won the Spanish Tarmac Championship, which is another important rally competition in his home country. In 2009, he started driving for a different car company, Subaru.
