FC Blau-Weiß Linz is a football club from Linz, a city in Upper Austria, Austria. The team plays in the Austrian Football First League, which is one of the top football leagues in Austria.
Club History
The club was started on July 2, 1997. It was created to continue the legacy of two older teams: FC Linz and SV Austria Tabak Linz. They began playing in the Upper Austrian Landesliga, which was the fourth-highest football division.
After three years, the team won the league title. This win allowed them to move up to the Regionalliga Mitte. In the 2003/04 season, they won the Regionalliga Mitte. However, they lost in the promotion matches and stayed in the same league.
Later, the team faced some tough times and even moved down to the Landesliga again. But they worked hard and quickly returned to the Regionalliga Mitte the very next season. In the 2010/11 season, they finished second in their league. The team that finished first, LASK Juniors, was not allowed to be promoted. This gave FC Blau-Weiß Linz a chance. They won their promotion matches against WSG Wattens after a penalty shootout. This exciting win meant they were promoted to the First League.
Club Fans
Many fans see FC Blau-Weiß Linz as the new version of an older club called VOEST Linz. VOEST Linz had merged with another team, LASK, and eventually disappeared. The colors of FC Blau-Weiß Linz are blue and white. These were also the colors of the old VOEST Linz team. Because of this, the fans feel a strong connection to the history of VOEST Linz.
