Fort Sidney is a historic fort in Sidney, Nebraska, United States. It was first set up by soldiers as "Sidney Station" near the Platte Rivers. At first, it was a small fort with a strong building called a blockhouse on a hill. Soldiers lived in tents nearby.

Later, buildings from another fort were moved here by mules. This new place was called Sidney Barracks. In 1879, its name changed to Fort Sidney.

The Sidney-Black Hills Trail was a busy path for people heading to the gold mines. Along the trail, there were stops for stagecoaches. One of these stops was called Greenwood Stage Station. The trail also crossed the North Platte River at a place known as Camp Clarke Bridge.

Today, Fort Sidney is a museum. You can visit the old buildings that are still standing. It helps people learn about life at a frontier fort.

What Can You See at the Museum?

The Fort Sidney Complex includes several historic buildings. The Cheyenne County Museum is located in the old living quarters for married officers. You can also see the Commander's Home. This house has been restored to look just like it did in the late 1800s. There is also a powder house, which was used to store gunpowder safely.
