Viceroy of Catalonia

In 1617, he was appointed Viceroy of Catalonia. A Viceroy is like a governor who rules a region in the name of a king. In this role, he was known for being tough and effective in keeping order. He worked hard to stop "banditism" (groups of outlaws) and other problems. To do this, he sometimes had disagreements with the local government of Catalonia and even limited some of their local laws.
