Francis O'Connor was born in Leongatha, Victoria, Australia. His birthday was on October 13, 1894.
Early Government Work
O'Connor became the Secretary of the Department of Supply and Shipping in September 1946. This was a very important job. In 1948, the government changed how some departments were organized. Because of this, his role changed back to a "first assistant secretary." This meant he was still a senior leader, but not the very top boss of the department.
Becoming Secretary Again
In April 1953, Francis O'Connor was appointed Secretary once more. By this time, the department was known as the Department of Supply. He continued in this high-level role until 1959. That year, he retired from the Australian Public Service. This is the name for all the people who work for the Australian government.
Later Life
Francis O'Connor passed away on April 16, 1972. He was 77 years old. He died in Fitzroy, a suburb of Melbourne, Victoria.
Awards and Recognition
Francis O'Connor received special awards for his excellent work. In 1953, he was made an Officer of the Order of the British Empire. This award recognizes people who have done great things for their country.
He received an even higher award in June 1957. He was made a Commander of the Order of the British Empire (CBE). This honor was given to him because of his outstanding service to the public. It showed how much his work for the government was valued.
