What Was the French Institute of Urbanism?
The IFU was a place where students could study urban planning at an advanced level. This means they learned how to think about and design cities. They studied how to make sure cities have good homes, schools, parks, and ways for people to get around. The goal was to create cities that work well for everyone.
How Did It Start?
The IFU began a long time ago, in 1968. It started as a department at the University Experimental Center of Vincennes in Paris. In 1976, it became its own independent school. It was first called the Institut d'Urbanisme de l'Académie de Paris (IUAP).
A New Name and a New Chapter
Later, in 1985, the school changed its name to the French Institute of Urbanism (IFU). It was located at the University of Marne-la-Vallée. This university is on the Descartes campus in Champs-sur-Marne, France.
What Happened to IFU?
In 2015, the IFU joined forces with another school. It teamed up with the Institut d'Urbanisme de Paris. This other school was part of the Paris 12 Val de Marne University. Together, they formed a new, bigger school called the Ecole d'urbanisme de Paris. So, the IFU continued its work under a new name.
