Fulgencio Zúñiga (born July 23, 1977) is a professional boxer from Colombia. He was once the champion in the super middleweight division for the IBO. He is known for his powerful punches and exciting fights.
Early Boxing Days
Fulgencio Zúñiga started his boxing journey in 1997. He quickly showed his talent. In his first big national competition, he won a gold medal. This was at the 48th National Boxing Tournament in Bucaramanga.
In the same year, he also won a gold medal at the 13th Bolivarian Games in Peru. He earned a silver medal at the Central American Boxing Championship in Mexico. He also competed in the 4th Pan-American Boxing Championship in Colombia.
Fulgencio continued to shine in 1998 and 1999. He won the 49th National Boxing Tournament, becoming a two-time national champion. He also represented Colombia in other important events. These included the 6th South American Games in Ecuador, where he won another gold medal. He also earned a bronze medal at the Roberto Balado Cup in Cuba.
Becoming a Professional Boxer
Fulgencio Zúñiga became a professional boxer on February 11, 2001. His first fight was against Manuel Cabarcas in Barranquilla. Fulgencio won by knockout in the very first round!
