Geneviève Gauthier's Journey in Math
Geneviève Gauthier grew up in Montreal, Canada. She loved math and studied it at the Université du Québec à Montréal. There, she earned two degrees in mathematics. One of her teachers, Alain Latour, was a big help to her.
She then went on to get her highest degree, a Ph.D., in mathematics from Carleton University. For her Ph.D., she wrote a very important research paper about complex math equations, guided by her professor, Donald A. Dawson.
After finishing her studies in 1996, she started teaching at HEC Montréal. She became a full professor in 2008. From 2013 to 2016, she was even in charge of the Department of Decision Sciences, which is like being the head of the math and statistics department.
Awards and Achievements
In 2018, the Statistical Society of Canada gave Geneviève Gauthier a special award. It was called the SSC Award for Impact of Applied and Collaborative Work. She won because she did amazing work helping to create new ways to use statistics in money management. She also helped train many smart students in this field.
