Héctor Olivera (born April 5, 1931) is a famous Argentine film director, producer, and screenwriter. He has made many movies in Argentina and also worked on some films for the United States.
Biography
Héctor Olivera started working in movies when he was just 17 years old. He began as an assistant director. When he was 25, in 1956, he started his own company to make films. He has produced over 100 movies!
In the United States, he is well-known for two of his films: Night of the Pencils (1986) and Funny Dirty Little War (1983). These movies often shared important messages. Olivera made different kinds of movies, some with important messages and some more for entertainment.
Festival Juries
Héctor Olivera was asked to be a judge at important film festivals. In 1988, he was a jury member for the main film competition at the Cannes Film Festival in France. In 1998, he was also a judge at the 48th Berlin International Film Festival in Germany, where they chose the "Golden Bear" award winner.
