Hafan y Môr is a popular holiday park located near Pwllheli in Wales. It used to be a Butlin's holiday camp, but now it's run by Haven Holidays. The name Hafan y Môr means "Sea Haven" in Welsh, which is perfect for a park so close to the coast!
History of Hafan y Môr
This holiday park has changed quite a bit over the years. It started out as a Butlin's camp, which was famous for its chalets and many attractions.
Becoming a Haven Park
In 1999, the park became part of Haven Holidays. This happened because the company that owned both Butlin's and Haven, called The Rank Group, decided to reorganize things. Later, in 2000, another company called Bourne Leisure bought both Haven and Butlin's.
When Haven Holidays took over, the park was renamed Hafan y Môr. The biggest change was that most of the holiday homes became static caravans instead of chalets. Many of the older attractions were also removed. These included a chairlift, a miniature railway, a roller coaster, and a funfair.
Modern Makeovers
Hafan y Môr has had several big updates to make it even better for visitors.
- In 2011, the park had a £1.2 million makeover. The old fairground was removed, and the main entertainment building, called the 'show bar', was completely redone. The central plaza area was also modernized. Plus, new ropeworks were built in the forest for adventurous activities.
- In 2017, the swimming complex got a huge £3 million makeover. All the old swimming pools were replaced, and two brand new pools were added. This made the swimming area much more exciting and modern for everyone to enjoy.
