Heinz Höher was a German footballer and manager. He was born on August 11, 1938, and passed away on November 7, 2019. Heinz Höher played for several well-known clubs. Later, he became a successful football manager, leading many teams.

Heinz Höher's Football Journey

Heinz Höher had a long and interesting career in football. He was known for his skills both as a player and as a coach. His journey took him to different clubs in Germany and even to other countries.

Playing Days

Heinz Höher started playing football at a young age. From 1948 to 1957, he was part of the youth team at Bayer 04 Leverkusen. This is where he learned the basics of the game.

He then joined the senior team of Bayer 04 Leverkusen in 1957. He played as a Midfielder and a Striker. A midfielder helps both attack and defense. A striker's main job is to score goals. Heinz Höher played 155 games for Leverkusen and scored 60 goals.

After his time at Leverkusen, he moved to Meidericher SV in 1963. He played 20 games there. In 1965, he went to the Netherlands to play for FC Twente, where he played 21 games and scored 2 goals. His last club as a player was VfL Bochum, from 1966 to 1970. He played 70 games and scored 20 goals for them. In total, he played 266 games and scored 82 goals in his career.

Heinz Höher also represented his country. From 1959 to 1962, he played for the West Germany Olympic team. He played 9 games for them and scored 4 goals.

Coaching Career

After he stopped playing, Heinz Höher decided to become a football manager. A manager is like the head coach of a team. They are in charge of training, tactics, and choosing the players.

He started as an assistant manager at VfL Bochum in 1970. Soon after, he became the main manager for Schwarz-Weiß Essen from 1970 to 1972. His first big role as a manager was back at VfL Bochum, where he stayed for seven years, from 1972 to 1979.

He then managed several other German clubs. These included MSV Duisburg (1979–1980) and Fortuna Düsseldorf (1980–1981).

Heinz Höher also coached teams outside of Germany. He managed Ethnikos Piraeus F.C. in Greece in 1981. Then he coached PAOK from 1981 to 1983, and Olympiacos in 1983, both in Greece.

He returned to Germany to manage 1. FC Nürnberg from 1984 to 1988. Later, he had a short time managing Al-Ittihad in Saudi Arabia (1988–1989). His last known coaching role was with VfB Lübeck in 1996.
