The Helen DeVos Children's Hospital (HDCH) is a special hospital just for kids. It is located in downtown Grand Rapids, Michigan. This hospital has 241 beds and is known across the country for its excellent care.
It is part of the Corewell Health system. It is the only children's hospital in that system. The hospital works with the Michigan State University College of Human Medicine.
Helen DeVos Children's Hospital helps babies, children, teenagers, and young adults up to 18 years old. It offers many different kinds of medical care. It is also a Level I Pediatric Trauma Center. This means it is ready to help kids with very serious injuries. The hospital has special units for babies and children who need intensive care. The hospital is named after Helen DeVos, who was a big supporter and donor.
About the Hospital
This hospital offers more than 40 different types of special medical services for children. This means they have doctors who are experts in many areas, like heart problems, cancer, or bone issues.
In 2009, the hospital received "Magnet Recognition status." This award shows that the hospital has very high-quality nursing care. It means the nurses are excellent at what they do.
The hospital's program for treating blood disorders, cancer, and bone marrow transplants also won an award. The American Society of Clinical Oncology recognized their work. This award was for improving cancer care through special research. Only a few hospitals in the U.S. received this honor.
A new 14-story building for the children's hospital opened on January 11, 2011. It is located at 100 Michigan St. NE in downtown Grand Rapids.
In 2008, the hospital started a program with Priority Health. It is called the Children's Healthcare Access Program. This program helps children who are part of Medicaid get better access to their regular doctors.

Helen DeVos Children's Hospital is recognized as one of the best children's hospitals in the country. It ranks highly in 8 different pediatric specialties. In Michigan, it is considered the second-best children's hospital. The U.S. News & World Report publishes these rankings. The C.S. Mott Children's Hospital is ranked first in Michigan.
