From 1928 onwards, the same person always held both jobs at the same time. Their main office was in Jerusalem.
The role of High Commissioner started on 1 July 1920. This was before the official British rule (called the Mandate) began in 1923. The High Commissioner took over from a British military government. This important job ended on 15 May 1948, when the Mandate also finished.
