Hugo Omar Cóccaro (born May 4, 1954 – died July 21, 2019) was an important politician from Argentina. He was a member of the Justicialist Party. He served as the governor of Tierra del Fuego Province.

Hugo Cóccaro was an Argentine politician. He is best known for being the governor of Tierra del Fuego. This is a province located in the southern part of Argentina.
Early Life and Work
Hugo Cóccaro was born in a town called Saladillo. This town is in the Buenos Aires Province. When he was 20 years old, he moved to Tierra del Fuego. He moved there with his brother.
Together, they started a company that built things. Later, Hugo bought a sawmill. A sawmill is a place that cuts wood. His sawmill was near the city of Río Grande. He had four daughters.
Starting in Politics
Hugo Cóccaro began his political career in 2003. He was elected as the vice-governor. He worked alongside Governor Jorge Colazo. Governor Colazo was from a different political party.
However, Hugo Cóccaro and Governor Colazo later had disagreements. On October 25, 2005, Governor Colazo was suspended. This meant he could not do his job for a while. Because of this, Hugo Cóccaro became the acting governor. He officially became the governor on December 2, 2005.
His Time as Governor
During his time as governor, there were some challenges. One challenge involved a provincial oil company. There was also a process called an impeachment. An impeachment is when a public official is accused of doing something wrong. They might be removed from their job. However, Hugo Cóccaro was not removed from his position.
He tried to be re-elected as governor in 2007. He won the first round of voting. But in the final election, he lost. He was defeated by Fabiana Ríos. She made history by becoming the first woman to be elected governor in Argentina.
Later Life and Passing
Hugo Cóccaro passed away on July 21, 2019. He was 65 years old. He died in the city of Buenos Aires.
