Built in 1890, the Queen Anne-style home is designated as a contributing property to the Dupont Circle Historic District, listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 1978. Previous occupants of 1721 19th Street, N.W., (corner house) include the following: Samuel Baldwin Marks Young – a U.S. Army general; veteran of the American Civil War, the Spanish-American War, and Philippine American War; the first president of Army War College; and the first Chief of Staff of the U.S. Army. Lucien Young – an admiral of the U.S. Navy; Commandant of the U.S. naval station in Havana, Cuba during the Spanish-American War. Louis Brownlow – mayor of Washington, D.C.; journalist; author; political scientist; member of the Cosmos Club. Usha Selvanayagam – employee of the Indian embassy.
