Description: Portrait of Hyde Park High School baseball team. Samuel "Sam" Ransom, an African American player, is sitting in the middle of the team. This photo has been cropped and touched up by me. This photonegative taken by a Chicago Daily News photographer may have been published in the newspaper. Cited as: SDN-001546, Chicago Daily News negatives collection, Chicago History Museum. Library of Congress and Chicago History Museum list this picture as 1903, but a 1918 article by Chicago Tribune writer Walter Eckersall says the two attended school together at Hyde Park from 1899 to 1902.
