Description: Poverty headcount ratio, or poverty rate, based on new 2014 World Bank international benchmarks for select countries. Previous data used 2005 PPP basis. The new data uses 2011 PPP basis (Purchasing Power Parities), and the method of calculating PPP has been revised to reflect economic changes since last revision. On equivalent basis, the 2011 benchmark approximately equals $1.55 on the old benchmark (2005 PPP basis). Data source for the chart: Laurence Chandy and Homi Kharas (2014), What Do New Price Data Mean for the Goal of Ending Extreme Poverty?, Brookings Institute, Washington DC.
