Image: 2017 J 1 CFHT precovery annotated
Description: Animation of three precovery images of Jupiter's irregular moon S/2017 J 1 (Jupiter LIX), taken by Christian Veillet with the Canada-France-Hawaii Telescope's MegaPrime CCD camera on 8 September 2010. Each image was taken approximately 12-15 minutes apart, showing the moon's motion relative to the faint background galaxies. The other faster moving object in this image is a foreground asteroid. The raw image datasets used are 1235641p, 1235645p, and 1235650p. The moon's location on those dates were given by Ashton et al. (2020), and can be viewed in the Aladin Sky Atlas.
