Description: 392-393 West Street, also known as 6 Weehawken Street, between Christopher Street and West 10th Street, in the West Village neighborhood of Manhattan, New York City, was built in 1834 for the City of New York as part of the Market House of the Greenwich Market, known informally as the Weehawken Market, which was built on land which had formerly been Newgate State Prison. It was altered in 1848, after the city had closed the market in 1846, and the property was divided into lots (this building being on lot #5). The building was subsequently used primarily as a bar and pool hall, but has also been a photographer's studio and an adult video store, among other things. The building is located within the Weehawken Street Historic District.
