Image: A hindoo fakeer with long hair
Description: "A hindoo fakeer" with long hair, cloak and walking stick stands by a rock from which water springs. Fakeers are however sufi (muslim), while hindu holy men may be called Sadhu. This lithograph was taken from plate 3 of Emily Eden's 'Portraits of the Princes and People of India'. Eden incorrectly wrote: "A Fakeer is a religious devotee, whether of the Mahomedan or Hindoo persuasion; the person represented in the print is a Hindoo". Lithograph 1844 By: Emily Eden after: Lowes Cato Dickinson Printed: [J. Dickinson & Son], [1844] ([Charles-Joseph Hullmandel])[London] ([114 New Bond Street])
