Image: A smoldering ember pyrometry
Description: For this image intensities of red, green, and blue color planes from a glowing ember of an image, which was taken with ISO = 200, f = 2.8, and t = 1.3 ms, were examined. Two pyrometers were used for the color contours: A grayscale pyrometer and a hybrid pyrometer which incorporates the accuracy of ratio pyrometry and the low noise of grayscale pyrometry. The hybrid pyrometry provides a spatial resolution of 17 μm, a signal-to-noise ratio of 530, and an estimated uncertainty of ±20 °C. The measured ember temperatures were between 750 – 1070 °C with a mean of 930 °C. The thermocouple indicated a temperature 230 °C below the mean ember temperature.
