Description: Northern Goshawk; female, juvenile. Caught inside a hen house near Alcobaça, Portugal, then confined in a big bird cage. Birds of prey enjoy strict legal protection in most countries around the world; the catcher of this particular bird had it confiscated by the police, faced the magistrate and had to pay a heavy fine. The maximum penalty for keeping a bird of prey under Portuguese Law is prison.
