Image: Akrotiri Santorini-Volcano pumice-layers Aegean-Sea
Description: Layers of pumice, on top the eroded cover, now fertile soil. In one layer there are many intrusions of small volcanic rocks. The volcano of the island Thera/Santorini, Aegean Sea piled up these materials during its giant minoan eruptionphases (Late-Bronze-Age, 3,5 ka, Minoan eruption). These meters thick pumice piles at the north cliff face of Santorini’s southern peninsula also buried the only recently found prehistoric city Akrotiri.
