Description: LIBI_00019_00232; This item is an albumen carte-de-visite (card-mounted photograph) of Alanson M. Randol of the 2nd New York Cavalry, Winchester, Virginia. The bust view photograph is 2 1/4 x 4" mounted and was produced in 1865 by Matthew B. Brady of Washington, D.C. The image was published by Brady's National Photographic Portrait Gallery. On the front, a handwritten notation in brown ink reads, "Yours Truly/A.M. Randol/Col. 2nd NY Cavly." Another handwritten notation in pencil reads, "Feb. 1865 Winchester, VA." A 3 cent tax stamp, featuring an image of George Washington, is adhered on the verso and the photographer's stamp is printed in black ink. Catalog numbers 230-235 were originally in an envelope addressed to Elizabeth Custer.
