Description: NH 56473 American Privateer CONGRESS Captures HMS Sloop SAVAGE Title: American Privateer Congress Captures HMS Sloop Savage On 6 September 1781, the American privateer Congress, under Captain Geddes, engaged HMS sloop Savage, under Captain Sterling, in a day-long battle some 10 leagues eastward of Charleston, South Carolina. Congress forced Savage to strike her colors. Savage was recaptured by HMS Solebay before her prize crew could reach a safe American port. Black & white photograph of painting.
