Description: Merchant vessels assemble along the coastline near Hvalford, Iceland preparing to sail for Russia at dusk that evening. COMBINED BRITISH AND AMERICAN FLEET COVER RUSSIAN CONVOY. MAY 1942, ON BOARD HMS VICTORIOUS AT SEA AND AT HVALFJORD, ICELAND. Original description: The convoy will sail at dusk. A striking silhouette of the convoy at it's rendezvous, waiting for the order to sail. All these ships are loaded with vital war supplies for Russia. Comment : Possibly PQ 16: the date of photograph and presence of Victorious would be consistent with that.
