The source of the blazon was page 635 of The General Armory of England, Scotland, Ireland, and Wales, by Bernard Burke, published by Harrison & sons in 1864. This coat of arms dates from the lifetime of Thomas Babington Macaulay (1800–1859). It not granted by the Lord Lyon King of Arms.
