Description: Illustration of central band from the Blacas krater of "Sunrise", British Museum E466. The figures generally combine mythical personages and astronomical objects. From right to left, the figures are Helios (the Sun), four boys representing setting stars, Endymion, Eos (the dawn), Cephalus, a dog, and Selene (the Moon). It has been suggested that here Cephalus is an avatar of Orion, as he seems to take the general shape of the constellation, and that the dog at his foot represents Sirius.
