Description: This house is named William Brandt, who purchased the property and the house in 1859 from Charles H. Mouton. Experts estimate the house was built around 1840 as a two room cottage. During recent restoration work, the present owner, Ms. Sonya LaComb-Boudreaux, discovered clues that indicated sometime around 1870, the front of the house was changed to the right elevation, the entire roof re-built, and the front gallery was added to the right side where it exists today. Because it is the 1870 facade and style that remains, the date on the National Register is circa 870. Thanks to the restoration and care of the present owner, the home is one of the few Greek Revival style buildings remaining in the downtown area. Much of Lafayette's historic building stock of the early 1800's has been demolished or covered. Of the historic buildings on our local register, especially those remaining downtown, most were built after 1880.
