Description: BOSTON– Brig. Gen. (MA) Mario DiCarlo, commander, National Lancers and Medal of Honor recipient Retired U.S. Navy Capt. Thomas Hudner, pose for a picture after the Ancient and Honorable Artillery Company’s President’s Day Luncheon, Faneuil Hall, Feb. 17, 2014. The AHAC recognized Soldiers from the Massachusetts Army National Guard who were some of the first responders during the April 15, 2013 terrorist bombing of the Boston Marathon. The AHAC was chartered by the Mass. Legislature in 1638 as a volunteer militia company. For a large part of the AHAC’s first 250 years, many members of the unit went on to become officers in the Massachusetts Militia. With the formation of today’s National Guard and the nationwide federal standards for military officers, the AHAC transitioned into a patriotic and service organization.
