Beneath her image is a printed caption that reads "I Sell the Shadow to Support the Substance / Sojourner Truth."[1] On the back in the center is a block of printed text that reads "Entered according to act of Congress in the year 1864, by SOJOURNER TRUTH, in the clerk's office, of the U.S. District Court, for the Eastern District of Michigan."
