Description: An abundant grass in the understory of west slope Ponderosa pine, Pinus ponderosa. The stems have a purplish base and the collar region is distinctly hairy. Flowering stems can be abundant post-fire or in the area of a tree gap. During the early season, the awn is relatively strait but eventually will twist and bend and become exerted from the glumes.
