Description: Olaus Magnus, Carta Marina (1539), detail showing a giant crustacean grabbing a man in its pincers, off the coast of the Hebrides (Iona is also labeled). Actually Olaus depicts the polypi (octopi) as such in Historia de Gentibus Septentrionalibus (1555) [1]. Cf. File:Olaus1555-p763-polypis.png.
