Description: Castles of Munster: Coppingers Court, Cork Named after the notorious Cork merchant Sir Walter Coppinger who built it between the 1620s and 30s, this stronghouse stands in a field south of a thinly walled bawn. It consists of a two storey block containing fine state rooms, plus rooms for servants in the attic within the roof. Two four storey wings project northwards, each with machicolated parapets over corbels, with similar machicolations upon the ends of the main block's south wall. Most of the windows have been ripped out, but some fragments still remain in the south wing seen here on the right. A later Walter Coppinger and his son Dominic were rebel Catholics and were attainted by the Williamite government in 1691. The house was later held by the Beecher family as tenants of the Hollow Blade Sword Company.
