Description: This image captures Johnson at a critical juncture in his career, in the 1940 all-black production Mystery in Swing, for which his orchestra provided all the music, and which, aside from literally transitioning him from C. B. to Cee Pee, really established him in Hollywood, leading not only to more night club work than Johnson knew what to do with, but to a series of high-profile musical cameos over the next few years, most notably in Citizen Kane, Hellzapoppin' and To Have and Have Not.
