Description: Cliffs at The Naze A good example of the different layers and how they erode differently. The cliffs at the Naze are a geological Site of Special Scientific Interest. They are constantly slumping and eroding due to layers of Red Crag and Tertiary and Quaternery sediments overlaying London Clay. These erode at different rates and reveal many different sorts of fossil. The site is renowned for its early bird fossils, hence its SSSI designation.
