Description: Mars Express HRSC view of Solis Planum (right), Claritas Fossae (center) and Lowell Crater (left) on April 2, 2014. This image was constructed from a two color (blue/green) observation with a synthetic red channel. Stratocumulus clouds drift over Solis Planum south of Noctis Labyrinthus. To the south, high cirrus drifts over small patches of dust lifting activity along the southern edge of Solis Planum where it meets the highlands of Claritas Fossae. Bluish haze and high altitude (likely noctilucent) clouds drift over the deep southern hemisphere. THe large crater near the horizon is Lowell Crater, which measures 203 km in diameter. This image was acquired during Mars Express' 14,023rd orbit around Mars.
